here any way I can get back the recovery partition? I have a purchased a data recovery program but the files recovered are all over the place.

Yes there is no way a data recovery program can find all those files and reassemble them into something that works. The only way to get the recovery partition back is to use an HP recovery disk and return it to factory state. That will restore the recovery partition as well as the original OS installation.

Can't tell you without the Model or Product number.  

 

If it came with Windows 7 HP will not have it you have to go to a 3rd party like

 

computersurgeons.com

 

restoredisks.com

 

If it came with Windows 8 or higher likely can be ordered direct from HP right on the product support (driver download) page for your model but again, need to know the model.
