Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As above after replacing the m2 drive 25gb with a 500gb nvme unit my second 1000gb hdd is not recognised.

O.S is win10 home.

I think my laptop is a pavillion model but not sure.

The bios shows the hdd is incompatible after the new nvme upgrade.

Any advice appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

 

I understand that you are facing issues with the second HDD not being recognized. I'd like to help!

I would like to know if the 1TB HDD is new and empty or does it have data on it.
 

We need to check if the 1TB HDD is shown in disk management and if it is shown and if it's empty, try and format the HDD and install it again.

 

If you have data on this 1TB HDD, you may have to back up the data first and install-then right click and format it. Then it should recognize and show. And you may also have to create a "letter" for eg: "C' drive, create one for your Hdd and check. Keep me posted on how it goes.

Hello and thank you for the reply.

The 1TB HDD is the original supplied with the laptop and was in use before I installed the newer larger 500gb one.
 

The 1TB HDD is NOT shown in disk management but is shown in the bios and stated as not compatible.

Hello again, my laptop is an HP Notebook- 17 -by0000na  product #4cp68ae#abu.

Prior to updating the m2 drive ( 25gb? ) my laptop was slowing down to the point it was unusable, hence the upgrade to 500gb.

Now the 1000gb HDD that came with the laptop is not recognised in my computer but states it is incompatible in the bios.  Could it be that the HDD has failed? Is there a way of testing it  and if it has failed would this be the cause of the problem?

Thanks for replying. Since you mentioned that, you have upgraded the 25GB M2 drive which looks like an Optane memory. 

 

The M.2 connector that supports the Optane memory module can also support a solid-state drive. You cannot simultaneously install both an Optane memory module and a solid-state drive in the computer.

 

Please follow the steps below and keep me posted on the results. 

 

How do I enable or disable the Intel Optane memory in the system BIOS?

NOTE:

The system board requires BIOS version 02.06 or later to install the Intel Optane memory and software driver package. Some PCs were shipped with compatible BIOS but others need to be updated. To find the latest BIOS for your product, go to HP Support, and follow the on-screen instructions to find your product and locate downloads.

  CAUTION:

To avoid permanent data loss, do not disable Intel Optane in system BIOS without first disabling it in the Intel RST application.

  • Enable Intel Optane memory in the Setup Utility:
  • Open the BIOS by restarting the computer and repeatedly pressing F10 to enter Setup.
  • Select Advanced, select System Options, and then select Configure Storage Controller for Intel Optane.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Disable Intel Optane memory in the Setup Utility:
  • Open the BIOS by restarting the computer and repeatedly pressing F10 to enter Setup.
  • Select Advanced, select System Options, and click Configure Storage Controller for Intel Optane to remove the check.
  • Restart the computer.

Hello, tried for a few days to action your advice, updated the bios but it shows as F.66 and in the bios there is no advanced settings. So as of this time I cannot get any further with the update. 

Please advise.

Sounds like you have Optane in your machine and you did not disable it before replacing M.2 Optane. What is your machine actually ?  Please use the following way to find out
