This BIOS update is not compatible with this device

 

Support tried everything and in the end could not even sign in anymore with Face nor PIN. Had to fix it myself. Any hope that this will be fixed?

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues updating the Bios on your HP notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to find a solution for you.

 

Updating the BIOS, also known as "flashing the BIOS," replaces the BIOS firmware. When completed successfully, a BIOS update can fix or enhance aspects of a computer's performance, or provide support for newly installed hardware. However, if an incorrect update is installed or if the update process is interrupted, the motherboard can be permanently damaged, leaving the computer unable to boot. It is recommended to update your BIOS only if one or more of the following conditions apply: 

  • The update fixes a problem with your computer. 

  • The update enhances your computer's performance in the desired way. 

  • You are planning to change the operating system, processor, or other feature(s), and the current BIOS version will not support the new configuration. 

  • An HP Support Agent, or an HP support document, recommends that you download and install a specific updated BIOS.

Start with a hard reset to release any excessive static on the PC: 

  • If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown. 

  • If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off. 

  • With the pogo through the were off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer. 

  • With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out. 

  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power. 

Attempt to reset or recover the existing BIOS (if the recent update was interrupted): Click here 

 

Step 1: Verify the current BIOS version installed and the correct ROM Family SSID for your PC 

Step 2: Find the BIOS updates

Sorry for not replying earlier. I had tried all the suggestion with the HP help online who remoted. I'm now back at my computer and the recommended update option action for the BIOS in the HP Support Assistant disappeared. I refreshed to check but it no longer exists. So...I guess this was in error.

 

The only problem I had a couple of times was as sudden shutdown/restart in the middle of using the computer. Perhaps the BIOS update was supposed to fix this, but I don't know. If you have any insight, please let me know.

I just had a similar problem going from BIOS F.20 to Bios F.21. The update froze when doing the Bios Flash at 99%.

I called Support and learned that even though HP  sells laptops and pre-installs the HP Support Assistant software they provide ZERO support when their software notifies a customer that an IMPORTANT update is available even to the point of highlighting the notice with w RED EXCLAMATION POINT. Both the Rep (Ellie) and the Supervisor (Carla) said it was an operating system issue and they are not responsible. They didn't even take down the relevant information so they could notify their developers and perhaps save another customer from this critical failure of the laptop.

 

Fortunately, I found this post, created a recovery USB and re-flashed back to version BIOS F.20. All is back to normal.
