Elitebook 2560p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.  I've recently purchased a second hand Elitebook 2560p.  It has come with Windows 10 on it although the original OS was 7.  My issue is that I bought a third party battery and it is not charging.  The status will say "0% available, plugged in, charging".  My issue is that it is not charging.

Seller of the battery has said a possible solution would be to upgrade the BIOS.  This is something I have never done before.  On checking the HP support website, Windows 10 is not an option when i try to select Windows 10 for the version of the OS.  When I check on Windows 7 it says the latest BIOS update is F6.3Rev.A.  My current BIOS version is F5.0.  I don't know what to do to get the new battery to charge.  I have the original HP battery SX03 which charges fine but just holds charge for about an hour.  I've searched all over the net and been reading forums and I've tried just about every solution suggested but to no avail.  Can someone point me in the right direction of what I need to do?  Will I have to purchase a genuine HP battery as HP has blocked third party batteries or have I a duff battery?  I've ran the UEFI and it says the battery is bad and to replace.  Many thanks 🙂

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Sorry, but HP makes their BIOS updates OS-version-specific; meaning, you can not run the BIOS update for Win7 if your PC is running Win10.

You would have to do the following:

1) Restore the PC to its original Win7 (this can be done using HP Recovery Media)

2) Download and apply the BIOS update

3) Redo the Win10 Upgrade

In terms of HP Recovery Media ...

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.

You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

In terms of redoing the Win10 Upgrade ...

You can download and create Win10 media from this link:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Once you have that, insert it into your PC, click on the folder containing it, and run the setup.exe program.  That will start the in-place Win10 Upgrade.
