I have tried to update my BIOS using a Windows Update service to BIOS ver. F.41 which can not be finished after pc restart. When I check Device Manager, I find issue with the Firmware driver. It asks me to restart PC again that don't change the status of the driver. I tried to uninstall it and return back to F.40 that is still visible in HP Hardware Diagnostic as a latest firmware. Then when using Windows Update again, I repeat whole process with the same result. I would prefer to manualy flash the firmware as before but I can not find the latest firmware (F.41) using a HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
Product ID: 20C60EA#BCM
OS: Win 11 - 21H2 (10.0.22000)
Last Attempt Status: 0xC0000058

Basically, I've been struggling with the same issue here since BIOS F.41 showed up in HP Support Assistant and I tried to install it.
System specs are at least quite similar:
- HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 15-dk1378ng / product no.: 3K593EA#ABD (i7 cpu instead of i5 etc. - should'n t matter)
- Win 11 - 22H2 Dev Channel (10.0.25206.rs_prerelease)
Flashing BIOS F.41 appears to run normally. Relevant passages from the HP logs:
Drivers are not installed or not up to date.
Title = HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.41.0.0
Description = HP Inc. Firmware driver update released in September 2022
[...]
User agreed to install or update drivers
Drivers are updated.
Test passed.
However, in Windows Device Manger the 'System Firmware' device won't start as it 'requires a system reboot'. I also have the 'Last Attempt Status: 0xC0000058' within the device's properties. Apparently, the device's driver oem88.inf (which corresponds to F.40) is properly replaced by oem109.inf shipped with BIOS F.41.
Reboot doesn't yield any results, so I', so I am basically trapped in an endless loop.
As the author already pointed out, I cannot locate any working link to the Softpaq files for either BIOS F.40 or F.41 within the HP support areas. I was able to track down some ancient versions, but i am urgently missing
- BIOS F.40 / SP141369 (link to original location is down - http 404) as well as a working link for
- BIOS F.41 / SP# unknown to me
The corresponding EFI partition contains a pair of 08740.bin /.sig files within \EFI\HP\BIOS\New resp. \EFI\HP\BIOS\Current each. Unfortunately, I am unable to derive the BIOS version numbers from the binaries - I can however tell they're different.
Reinstallation of the OS is not a sensible option to my mind - I simply need working download links for the Softpaq files mentioned above in order to apply the update from USB media for example.
Any hints appreciated...

Loony114, it seems that HP passed responsibility for BIOS updates to Microsoft Windows Update service.😞 I couldn't find a valid link for my BIOS update both in HP Support Assistant app and on HP website. 😒
I can easily reinstall Windows on my laptop as I keep all important data on second HDD. System and all programs and apps are installed on SDD.

WhiteWolfSix, thanks alot for your replies!
Funny coincidence the desired files suddenly appeared today - maybe I just should have waited a little longer before desperately crying for help 😎. Anyway... I was able to resolve my issue by just flashing the newly arrived binary using the provided Windows executable. No need for any fancy workarounds although I had already compiled any useful tools I could possibly find and put them on bootable USB 'for future use'.
Learned my lesson: hands off shiny new BIOS updates - just let someone else do the beta testing 😉
