I have noticed the internet stuttering at times on my laptop, even when I was on windows. I always thought it was an issue with using Wi-FI, however it has persisted now that I am using an ethernet cable. Could this be an issue with the BIOS, and so yes how would I go about updating that, considering I am using Linux.

@MintLiam,

You can create a BIOS recovery usb drive on a Windows-based PC. Connect the usb drive to your Linux notebook and use the key combination method (pressing Win and B keys) to run a BIOS update from the usb drive.
