Microsoft Windows 11

I am using an hp envy laptop and had recently replaced the battery after some time the battery got stuck at fix percentage and showed us it’s charging and later fixed by extensive memory test that resolved the issue and now the problem occurred again it got stuck to a percentage level and doesn’t charge beyond it and no power left and when I plug it in it shows amber light for a while and later 2-3 minutes it changes to white

What can be the issue it doesn’t show battery calibration option and only use laptop when adapter plugged in

Hi  @Kartik101

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I can understand how concerning it is when your HP Envy battery stops charging past a certain percentage, especially when the notebook only operates while connected to the AC adapter, Dont worry I'll check and help you with this.

To help us check this further, could you kindly share:

  • Was the replacement battery an HP genuine battery or a third-party battery?
  • What is the current battery percentage where charging stops?
  • If you run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI > Battery Test, what result does it show?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

  1. Turn off the notebook completely.
  2. Disconnect the charger.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the charger and power on the notebook.

Next, kindly update the BIOS and HP drivers:

  • Visit HP Support Assistant or the HP support website - https://support.hp.com/ and install  latest available BIOS, chipset, and power management updates.
  • Restart the notebook after the updates are completed.

Then, reinstall the battery driver:

  1. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Batteries.
  3. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart the notebook and allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.

Also, kindly run the HP battery troubleshooting steps from this HP document:

HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows) HP Battery Testing and Calibration Guide

If HP PC Hardware Diagnostics is available on your notebook, kindly perform:

  • Battery Test
  • Component Test > AC Adapter Test

and let us know the results.

Based on the symptoms you described, the notebook appears to be detecting the charger, which is why the charging light changes from amber to white after a few minutes. However, the battery may not be accepting additional charge due to one of the following reasons:

  • A BIOS or power management issue may be preventing proper charging.
  • The replacement battery itself may be developing a fault, even if it worked previously.

The battery test results will help us identify the next best step.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
