My notebook's battery is draining too quickly. The notebook has a 50 Whr battery. Earlier the battery lasted for 7+ hours easily (even without battery saver). But now it hardly lasts for 4 hours (with battery saver and lowered screen brightness). I need to recharge the battery many times during a single day use. I have calibrated the battery. The laptop has been used just for 4 months. Cleaned the vents and CPU fan using a compressor. No overheating. CPU fan at normal speeds (not noticeable) I have even tried lowering the brightness, turning on battery saver, disabled unnecessary devices, removed external USB peripherals, selected power saver plan, but these methods didn't solve the problem. Even tried resetting the device (reset and keep my files).
Came preinstalled with Windows 10 Home (1607), I have updated to the latest version of Windows 10 (1709).
I once tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate (on the same device and same drive after completely wiping the previous installation of Windows), updated Windows and all other drivers and installed the same programs and services, and this time the battery lasted 8+ hours easily (even without battery saver and while surfing the internet and word processing).
Is Windows 7 better optimised for battery saving? Should I consider a downgrade?
Why is Windows 10 not better optimized for battery saving (at least in my case)?
Should I try a completely clean installation of Windows 10 using ISO file (and not the inbuilt "Reset" option)? This one is something that I haven't tried.
Earlier I only tried reinstalled Windows 10 using the OEM's recovery discs and then updating all the way to 1709 from 1607 or resetting the PC using the inbuilt option (even tried reset the PC without keeping the files).
or
Should I consider a downgrade? But this won't be a wise choice right ? I don't think the battery needs to be replaced because on Windows 7 the battery lasted for more than 8 hours (after updating and installing the same programs and services that I had previously installed on Windows 10 1709). And even on the 1607 version of Windows 10, the battery lasted for 7+ hours (again after installing all the programs that I had previously installed on Windows 10 1709).
Thanks in advance !

Hi @pritam21
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
As I understand the battery is depleting faster than usual. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did this happen after a recent software update or upgrade?
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manager?
Have you tried to update the Bios?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.
Next thing, please try these few steps to enhance battery life.
- Make sure that the Windows 10 power plan is set to Balanced Performance to conserve battery power
- Consider which programs you are running; some programs, like graphics-intensive games, will deplete the battery faster
- .Reduce the convertible’s screen brightness to conserve battery power
- Remove peripherals like external hard drives from the convertible while they are not is use
Please follow the steps to uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control from Device manager:
Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue. The first document has the most relevant troubleshooting if your battery appears to be not charging.
I would suggest please update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link: http://hp.com/drivers Select the country and language. Enter the product# and follow the on-screen instructions.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
I would suggest you check the battery cycle count by HP Standards: Click here for a related HP Forum post.
Understand Lithium-Ion and Smart Battery Technology: Click here for details
Check the Status of the Battery using the HP Battery Check it’s a utility in HP Support Assistant that provides a simple but accurate test results for the battery.
HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 10) (Skip the steps if you have already performed).
Next thing, I would suggest here is to run the test on the battery from F2.(Click on Component test - Scroll down to Power)
Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance.
If the issue persists, you will need to either contact HP phone support by clicking here.

Good Luck.

No this was not after installing a software.
Yes, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver from the device manager.
I have already updated the BIOS to F.41 (the latest one) - https://imgur.com/a/cR5Dx
Tried performing a Hard reset on the notebook.
Power plan already switched to Power saver mode.
Same programs are running as were used in the 1607 version of Windows 10 and the CPU and RAM are not working intensively - https://imgur.com/a/ryudJ
Brightness most of the time set to 20%
Mostly no external pheripherals are used.
Tried uninstalling "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control".
Windows already updated.
All drivers are updated from HP's website (for my device) - https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-m6-aq100-x360-convertible-pc/12499188/model...
Battery Cycle -78/1000
Laptop used for 3-4 months only
Calibrated the battery
Battery tests show no issue but I don't trust on this.
