HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14 Sleekbook
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have an HP Pavillion Touchsmart 14 Sleekbook and it is brand new (bought it a few years ago, but opened it now).

It always shows 0% available. plugged in not charging and if I ever unplug it from the charger it dies immediately.

Here's what I've tried:
-uninstalled battery drivers, shut down and restarted laptop --> no change

i even tried to disable the drivers and then shut down and restart, but still no change

-update BIOS --> no change

-shut down, unplug, remove battery, wait, put battery back in, restart --> no change

I've tried many combinations of the above process and the only time it was different was when i did this:

-shut down, take out battery, turn on, start up windows/login, put in battery --> now it showed 100% available, plugged in charging but within a couple minutes it went back to 0% available, plugged in charging

I actually did this procedure twice and both times it showed 100% available, plugged in charging but the second time I tried to unplug it from the charger and it died right away

*note: the above modified procedure that worked for a bit was only working while still plugged into the charger and I can't do it any other way since if i unplug the charger it dies immediately

The battery can't be the issue since the laptop is new and the charger isn't the issue either.

Removing the battery and then starting up the laptop while plugged in worked fine, all it did was show that there is no battery.

I tried doing the restart plus f2 menu and i did battery test and even system tune up but all of those tests passed.

I don't know what else to do at this point and I would appreciate any help!

Take the battery and charger out and press the power button for 10 seconds, then put the battery in to see if it starts to charge up, if not then unfortunately, your only option is to get a new battery.

A quick reminder:

An unexpected shutdown can potentially harm your computer, make sure you back up your important files or computer regularly.
