HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV)

Hi, I encountered a problem with my laptop yesterday. The battery stops charging at 45%. The laptop is new, purchased at the beginning of October, which means it has only been used for about 4.5 months. Additionally, three days ago, I received a message about a malfunctioning cooling system (fan). Tests in the HP Help panel indicate that the battery is functioning properly and there are no issues with it.

Despite showing 45%, the laptop can still run for several hours, which suggests that the battery actually holds more charge than what is being displayed.

Is anyone able to help me?

@Kajto,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

All right: Battery Stops Charging at 45% & Cooling System Warning – HP 15-e2000

It sounds to me like there may be two separate issues at play here:

1. Battery Stops Charging at 45%:

Since your laptop is still running for several hours, the issue may be calibration-related rather than an actual battery failure.

Try the following steps:

Reset the Battery & Calibrate:

  1. Shut down the laptop and unplug the charger.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. Plug the charger back in and turn the laptop on.
  4. Charge the battery to 100% (even if it still shows 45%).
  5. Use the laptop on battery power until it shuts down by itself.
  6. Charge it again without interruption to 100%.

Check Battery Health in HP Diagnostics:

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP UEFI Diagnostics.
  • Run the Battery Test and see if it reports any issues.

Check Windows Battery Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Power & battery and check if a charging limit is enabled (some HP laptops have battery health modes that limit charge to extend lifespan).

2. Cooling System (Fan) Warning:

If you received a fan warning, it’s important to check for dust buildup or possible fan malfunction:

Clean the Air Vents – Use compressed air to remove dust.
Run the HP Fan Test – In HP UEFI Diagnostics (F2 at startup), run the Fan Test to check if it’s failing.
Update BIOS & Drivers – Go to HP Support and check for BIOS updates and cooling-related driver updates.
If the problem persists – Since the laptop is only 4.5 months old, it should still be under warranty. Contact HP Support Poland for a possible warranty repair or replacement.

Let me know if you need more help! 😊

Kind Regards,
