I am IT administrator of company, laptop was purchased in 2021, receipt is lost. I have the physical laptop with serial Edited and product 12C31UA. Can you help with BIOS unlock

How to Reset HP Laptop BIOS

Here are three methods to reset BIOS on your HP laptop:

Method 1: Reset BIOS to Default

  • Power off your laptop completely
  • Turn it on and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS Setup Utility
  • Navigate to the Exit or System Configuration tab using arrow keys
  • Select Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults
  • Confirm and save changes by selecting Save Changes and Exit (usually F10)

Method 2: CMOS Battery Removal (Advanced Users)

  • Power off and unplug the laptop; remove the battery if possible
  • Open the back panel (refer to your model's manual)
  • Locate and gently remove the CMOS battery for 5-10 minutes
  • Reinsert the battery, reassemble, and power on

Method 3: HP BIOS Recovery Options

  • Download the latest BIOS update from HP's official website
  • Create a USB recovery drive using HP's BIOS Update tool
  • Boot the laptop, press Windows + B, and insert the USB to restore BIOS

Steps to Take After Resetting Your BIOS

  • After resetting, configure these settings to ensure your laptop runs smoothly:

Essential Settings to Check

Why: A reset may disrupt date/time (causing software or update errors), Secure Boot (needed for Windows 11 compatibility), or virtualization (required for virtual machines).

  • Press F10 at startup to enter BIOS Setup Utility
  •  In Main, set correct system date/time
  • In Security, enable Secure Boot for Windows 11 or disable for older OS
  •  In System Configuration, enable VT-x/AMD-V for virtual machines
