I have an HP Stream 14", it's stuck on a Bios update, however I cannot get it to postpone so as to get it connected to my wifi, and connecting it to the wifi it knows is not possible due to switching of providers. In order to even see the screen I have to HDMI connect it to my TV. Can anyone help?

@Lovaa, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're facing a tricky situation where the BIOS update is blocking your ability to make changes, and the lack of Wi-Fi connection adds another layer of complexity. I'll walk you through a few troubleshooting steps specific to HP laptops that should help you address this:

Force Shutdown and Retry

Step 1: Turn off your HP Stream laptop by holding the power button for about 10-15 seconds.

Step 2: Disconnect any peripherals like HDMI cables, external drives, or USB devices.

Step 3: Power the laptop back on. Sometimes this can interrupt an update process that has gotten stuck or hung.

Perform a Hard Reset

This resets the hardware, which may fix any stuck updates:

Step 1: Power off the laptop.

Step 2: Unplug the laptop from the power source and remove the battery if possible (some models have a non-removable battery).

Step 3: Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.

Step 4: Reinsert the battery, plug it back in, and try powering it on again.

BIOS Recovery Method

If the BIOS update is stuck and you cannot interact with it via the screen or any normal boot process, HP has a BIOS recovery feature. You may be able to recover from the failed update:

Step 1: Power off the device completely.

Step 2: Press and hold the Windows key + B key (simultaneously), then power on the laptop while continuing to hold the keys down.

Step 3: After a few moments, you should see a screen with a progress bar or a message saying the BIOS is recovering. Allow it to complete.

Step 4: If successful, the laptop should boot normally, and you can adjust settings or proceed to connect to Wi-Fi.

Use HP’s Diagnostics Tools

Step 1: Turn off the laptop.

Step 2: Power it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.

Step 3: From here, select System Diagnostics and perform a System Test. If there is an issue with the hardware that’s causing the BIOS to hang, this can help identify it.

Use HP’s System Recovery Option

If the update issue persists and you cannot get to the desktop, you can attempt a system recovery:

Step 1: Turn off the laptop.

Step 2: Press F11 repeatedly as soon as the laptop starts (before the BIOS screen shows up).

Step 3: You’ll be taken to the HP Recovery Manager. From here, you can choose to either perform a system restore or reset your system (be aware this may erase data, so only use as a last resort).

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
