Hi @Jay122595,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We’re Here to Help. Your Laptop May Still Be Recoverable. If your HP 15-bs1xx laptop is not working after a BIOS update, it is possible that the BIOS was corrupted during the update process. Here's what you can try to recover from a corrupt BIOS:

1. First, Try HP’s Built‑In BIOS Recovery (WIN + B or WIN + V)

HP’s official guidance shows that many notebooks can restore the BIOS from a hidden partition even after a failed update.

Steps

  1. Turn the laptop off
  2. Connect the AC adapter
  3. Hold down Windows key + B
  4. While holding them, press and hold the Power button for 1–3 seconds
  5. Release the Power button, but keep holding Win + B for up to 15 seconds

What SHOULD happen:

  • You may hear beeps
  • The screen may flash
  • The BIOS recovery menu may appear
  • Or the system will automatically restore the BIOS

If WIN + B does nothing, repeat using WIN + V, which triggers a different HP recovery path.

HP states this method works on systems without HP Sure Start, which includes most HP 15‑bs series models.

2. If That Fails: Perform a Hard CMOS/Embedded Controller Reset

This clears corrupted power/firmware states.

  1. Disconnect charger
  2. Hold the Power button for 30 seconds
  3. Reconnect charger
  4. Try powering on again

This is the same reset HP Community experts recommend for corrupt BIOS repairs.

3. If Recovery Still Won’t Start: Create an HP BIOS Recovery USB Drive

If the onboard recovery partition is damaged, HP allows BIOS recovery from a USB drive.

You'll need another working Windows PC to create the USB.

How to Create the USB Recovery Drive

  1. On the working PC, go to:
HP Support → Software & Drivers → enter your full model (HP 15‑bs1xx)
  2. Download the BIOS Update file from: HP 15-bs100 Laptop PC Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
  3. Run the installer
  4. Choose Create Recovery USB Flash Drive
  5. Insert the USB into the broken laptop
  6. Hold WIN + B and power it on to trigger USB BIOS recovery

HP documents this process for BIOS corruption recovery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
