Product: HP pavillion

I have a bitlocker recovery key prompt screen. When I  enter the 48 digit key it whirrs round a few times, says it is updating, but then returns back to recovery key screen

BitLocker is an encryption system placed on the hard drive by the user.  It is supported by Microsoft and here is a recovery guide from them:
