Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently, every time I boot my laptop at start up I’m asked for my bitlocker recovery key- this is something that’s never happened before and I don’t use the bitlocker feature on my machine. Is there any particular reason why this might happen and how I can fix it?

thanks 🙂

BitLocker is incorporated automatically into some laptops by HP -- and they don't notify you about this, so you don't know it is the case.

To see if you actually have it, go into Settings and in Find a setting, enter BitLocker

You should see Manage BitLocker -- select that.  It will show you which drives are encrypted using BitLocker.

To remove it, you have to unencrypt the drive -- and I would not recommend that because I don't know if that is guaranteed to retain all the data on the drive.
