Something another member posted that may help.

In the run box type msconfig.

Go to Services tab and disable App Readiness. (uncheck all except App Readiness and then tap disable button)

I have the same issue with new HP envy.  But what is App readiness?  If I disable it, will I have other problems?

Basically- App Readiness gets applications ready for first logon or when adding new apps. It has been part of Windows since Windows 8 and has caused  long startup problems sporadically on both.

If you have a problem installing a new app from the Windows Store you may have to re-enable it temporarily. You might also try re-enabling it after the next round of updates since it may resolve itself then.

I am having the same problem.  i did some downloads from HP and bam i  get a black screen after logging in.  takes forever for my desktop to come up.   i have owned my lap top for 3 weeks.  may take the **bleep** thing back and get a lenova.

Thanks for the comment but just to explain my position.

 

I know this may sound a little ungrateful, but to me - although I am genuinely happy I dont have to wait 6:20 to see my desktop -this is a work around and not actually a solution.

For that reason this thread is still open.

 

I could use duct tape to hold my car closed - Glad that it doesnt swing open when I dont want it to but thats not a long term answer.

 

So its a big thumbs up for the workaround while we still await a proper solution that allows me to have my windows services running.

 

Hope that doesnt sound cheeky - promise not my intention at all!

so following up on the main issue of this thread,  has anyone been able to do a windows update successfully?

 

so far I have been subject to the "Undoing changes" windows update kind of loop after every session of compter usage and  if im forced to shut down and update or restart and update etc.

 

has anyone had to deal with windows update trouble specifically recently?
