Hi @abhishek_23284

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To resolve the slow boot, black screen with cursor, and lag issues on your HP laptop running Windows 11, start by disabling unnecessary startup apps, updating graphics drivers, and checking system integrity.

I understand how frustrating it feels to wait through delays and black screens just to reach your desktop, especially when the system continues to lag afterward.

You’ve already shown patience by observing the exact behavior, which helps us target the root causes.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide

1. Disable Unnecessary Startup Apps

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Go to the Startup tab.
  • Right-click and disable any apps you don’t need at startup (especially third-party utilities or background services).

2. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics device, and choose Update driver > Search automatically.
  • If you use AMD or NVIDIA, visit their official site for the latest drivers.

3. Run System File Checker

  • Press Windows + S, type Command Prompt, right-click and choose Run as administrator.
  • Type: sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  • Let the scan complete and follow any prompts to repair system files.

4. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install all pending updates, including optional ones.
  • Restart and observe boot behavior.

5. Turn Off Fast Startup

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save changes.
  • Restart the system.

6. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Download and install HP PC Hardware Diagnostics – Windows:
    HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows
  • Run the System Test and Component Test > Memory and Storage.
  • This helps confirm if lag is caused by hardware degradation.

7. Check for Background Services

  • Open Settings > Apps > Startup and disable any cloud sync, game launchers, or analytics tools.
  • Also check Settings > Privacy & Security > Background apps and turn off anything unnecessary.

Additional Considerations

  • Black screen with cursor often indicates delayed loading of explorer.exe. If it persists, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, go to File > Run new task, type explorer.exe, and press Enter.
  • If the system remains slow after login, consider creating a new local user profile to test whether the issue is tied to your current account.

You’ve already shown great attention to detail by describing the exact boot sequence. With these steps—especially disabling fast startup, updating drivers, and running diagnostics—you’ll be able to restore smooth performance and eliminate the black screen delay.
