HP Spectre x360 - 15-df1033dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Computer tried to reboot itself overnight and I now get the black screen with:

Boot Device not Found: Hard Disk Error 3F0

All system tests pass except storage which states there is no storage.

All hard disk drive diagnostics test pass.

Bios shows "Incomplete Optane Volume" where the only option is to wipe the disk and remove optane.

Obviously this problem has occurred before with HP,  but I've only seen solutions where the hard drive had to be reformatted and all data lost.  Is there a solution without wiping the hard drive and is there a way to retrieve my data?

Thanks.

I've followed the official instructions from the link you posted.

I've downloaded the bios onto a USB.  However, the UEFI screen does not have Firmware Management on it.  Only tests.  It is Version 2.0.1.0 - BIOS.

So I have no way of updating the bios using a USB stick.

Solutions?  And would updating the bios actually help boot the machine or retrieve my data?

Would looking at the drive using a Unix on a USB stick work?

Banhien,

Update:

I was able to install a new UEFI module via the USB drive from the HP website using my serial number.

From there, I was able to update the BIOS to F.29 from F.11.   I thought that the latest BIOS was F.29A.

There was a screen that said "Restoring Bios" so I thought it hadn't worked.  Should I try updating it again?

I attempted to reboot the computer, however, I'm still getting "Hard Disk (3F0) Error.  All tests passed except for

the Hard Drive/SSD Optimized DST Check : NOT AVAILABLE IN RAID (this on a later version of the UEFI)

Also, Storage Tests (eMMc, Flash) states "No storage installed".  The UEFI version now installed after BIOS update is 2.2.8.0.

When I went to the Bios setup utility, in configuration, under UEFI HII Configuration:

I clicked on Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology.

I get "Optane Volume:"  Incomplete Optane Volume.  When I clicked on this I get:

Incomplete volume member disks:

TG 4.0, INTEL HBRPEKNX0202AH TE92110405512B-1,  476.9GB

Clicking on that states "Disk Actions:  Reset to non-Optane"

with

Port: 4.0

Size: 476.9GB

Status: Disabled,

Controller type NVMe,

Controller Interface TG.

It cautions under Item Specific Help:  "Removes all data from the disk"

So, my question for you is, since updating the BIOS has not resolved the problem, does "Reset to Optane" clear the entire drive or just the Optane portion of 32GB?  I talked with Intel and they referred us to the OEM (HP), but there seemed to be some chance that a reset would only clear the Optane and not the entire drive.

I would really like to retrieve some data from this drive.

Thankyou

JMF
