Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me on this ! Help !!! I have looked through the threads with lots of useful info but nothing works so far.

I have the black screen with message :boot device and operating system not found. I have enabled legacy. Nothing. I have tried entering Bios but they are in grey. F buttons lead to black screen with the name if function written left bottom in white but no response. I have made a USB recovery flash drive with Bios from another computer. Still nothing.  Says no bootable device.

My laptop is 3 yrs old and this comes in the midst of important work to do. (Murphy???) Well, your help will be really appreciated here. Thank you !!!

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will replace it. If not a retail 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive can be used-Western Digital,Seagate,Toshiba, etc.

A bad hard drive can also cause the F buttons to not function in many cases.

Thank you very much Cheryl for replying so fast. Yes, indeed my hard disc seems to have failed. We tested it on another computer and it gave no signal at all.

As I said, my computer was (snif!) only 3 years old. I wouldn't have thought this could happen that fast.

Anyway, thank you again so much Cheryl !!!
