HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-fa-0000 (8Z8P5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I got a Boot Device Not Found error today just sitting here at my desk. I tried the troubleshooting methods I found here and online, to no avail. I also do not have a 'symptoms' menu.

When I hit f9 as the troubleshooting says, it says 'please select boot device' but there aren't any selections to choose at all.

Hi @mrswelch

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand your HP Envy x360 is displaying a Boot Device Not Found message, and I appreciate that you have already tried troubleshooting steps. The fact that F9 shows no boot devices available typically indicates that the SSD is either not being detected by the system or the boot information has become unavailable.

Please try the following checks:

Power off the notebook completely.

Turn it on and repeatedly tap F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

Under System Information or Storage, check whether the SSD/NVMe drive is listed.

  • If the SSD is listed, press F9 in BIOS to load defaults, save changes, and restart.
  • If the SSD is not listed, continue with the next step.

Power off the notebook again.

Disconnect all external devices, including USB drives, docking stations, and memory cards.

Perform a hard reset:

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Disconnect the charger.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger and power on.

Press F2 at startup to launch HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

  • If Storage/SSD tests are available, run them.
  • If no storage device appears in Diagnostics, the system is not detecting the drive.

Since you also mentioned that there is no Symptoms menu and no boot options are available under F9, the most important detail now is whether the SSD appears in BIOS System Information.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
