Hi @WileNout

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying that out so clearly—it’s a tough spot to be in, especially when you’ve already tried multiple fixes. The “Boot device not found – Hard Disk (3F0)” error means your laptop can’t detect a bootable operating system, usually due to a hard drive issue or BIOS misconfiguration.

Let’s walk through a structured recovery plan to help you move forward. 💪

🛠️ Step-by-Step Fix for Boot Device Not Found (3F0)

1. Restore BIOS Defaults

Sometimes BIOS settings get corrupted:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  • Press F9 to load default settings.
  • Press F10 to save and exit.

2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

This checks if your hard drive is physically okay:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and press ESC repeatedly, then press F2.
  • Select Symptom Tests → Hard Disk/SSD Drive Issue.
  • Run both Quick Test and Extensive Test.

If the drive fails, it may need replacement. If it passes, the issue is likely software-related.

3. Check Boot Order

  • In BIOS, go to System Configuration → Boot Options.
  • Make sure your internal hard drive is listed first.
  • If not, adjust the boot order and save changes.

4. Enable Legacy Support (if needed)

Some HP laptops require legacy boot for older drives:

  • In BIOS, go to Boot Options.
  • Enable Legacy Support and disable Secure Boot.
  • Save and exit.

5. Reinstall Windows

If the hard drive is detected but the OS is missing or corrupted:

  • Use a bootable USB with Windows installation media.
  • Boot from USB and follow prompts to reinstall Windows.

🧠 Why This Happens

Common causes include:

  • A corrupted boot sector or missing OS
  • A failed hard drive or loose connection
  • BIOS settings that no longer point to the correct boot device

If you’re unsure whether your hard drive is being detected or want help creating a recovery USB, I can walk you through it. You’re doing all the right things—let’s get your laptop back on track. 😄
