Spectre X360 14

I bought this device a few weeks back. It's a Spectre x360 14-ea0016TU

 

Since I received it I've installed a handful of applications, with nothing wild or unusual - Office, Chrome, PhotoScape, etc.

 

On a fairly regular basis it will BSOD with 3b on monitor.sys. This is usually when it comes out of sleep, but has happened in use. Mostly it heads straight to the BSOD and restarts, but one time gave a BSOD with lots of video artefacts and noise that looked like a cable half pulled out (interlacing, offscreen stuff displayed, etc).

 

I'm pretty unimpressed that a few thousand dollars worth of device arrives unstable. I've run all the troubleshooters, checked the OS with the usual MS tools. I've not yet reinstalled fresh (as I have a TON of work to get done, and a client that won't be impressed if stuff turns up late). Any suggestions? (and please HP staff, I would politely request not to reply with "have you installed any new software" or "have you tried a troubleshooter" as response)

Update:

 

Worth noting is that this is now happening every single time the machine comes out of sleep. I'm suspecting the only way to safely get work done is to install Windows from USB without the HP clutter. Before I throw away half a day's productivity, does anyone have any insights into how I might otherwise fix this?

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is a kind of Windows self-protection feature. If you received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss. A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error.What you describe could happen because of incompatible with Windows driver (most often) or because of hardware issue (rarely).

Many thanks, I'll work through those. I do note that a lot of the proposed solutions are ones that I find unacceptable (e.g. just stop using sleep mode). "Don't use that feature" doesn't work for me as a solution for a few thousand dollars worth of outlay. Likewise I think quite a few of the troubleshooting steps are for issues of failure to go into sleep, rather than Div 0 errors when waking. Regardless, much appreciated and I'll follow the steps.

 

Regarding causes of the BSOD, it's good to understand that it's rarely hardware related, but as the driver in question is an MS internal I guess that leads to the conclusion that the driver has corrupted or that HP hasn't fully tested compatibility of their 3K x 2K display with the MS UPnP driver. A failure of monitor.sys is pretty poor.
