- Brief white blink before orange charging.

My laptop initially used to show an orange light when the power is inserted, some time later I made some upgrades, by changing ram, hdd to SSD and battery, then all of a sudden, when I plug my charger in, before it shows orange which it should when charging, it shows a brief very fast white blink, then changes to orange.
I don't know if it's as a result of the new hardware updates because I didn't take notice initially, just discovered it yesterday, so please help.
What's causing it ?.

Hi @DeeSOG
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for sharing what you’ve observed. It’s understandable to feel concerned when your laptop’s behavior changes after a hardware upgrade, especially when it involves something as noticeable as the charging LED.
Here’s what might be happening and how you can approach it:
Why the Charging Light Briefly Blinks White Before Turning Orange
The brief white blink followed by orange is likely a result of how the system initializes power delivery after detecting new hardware. This behavior can be influenced by:
1. Battery Calibration or Charging Circuit Response
- After replacing the battery, SSD, and RAM, the system may briefly check the battery status and power draw.
- The white blink could indicate a quick handshake between the charger and the battery before normal charging begins.
2. Firmware or BIOS Behavior
- Some HP laptops are designed to show a white light momentarily when power is first applied, especially after hardware changes.
- This may not have been noticeable before, but it’s not necessarily a fault.
3. Battery or Power Management Driver Sync
- The system may still be syncing with the new battery’s firmware.
- A brief white blink can occur during this sync, especially if the battery is new or third-party.
Steps You Can Try to Normalize the LED Behavior
1. Reset Battery Management System
This helps the system re-learn the battery’s characteristics.
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Batteries
- Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and choose Uninstall
- Shut down the laptop
- Disconnect charger and remove battery (if removable)
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds
- Reinsert battery and connect charger
- Power on and let the system idle for a few minutes
2. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
This ensures the system firmware is aligned with the new hardware.
- Visit the official support page for your model:
HP 14-cf2111wm Drivers and Software - Download and install the latest BIOS, Chipset, and Power Management drivers
3. Run Battery Diagnostics
This checks for any inconsistencies in battery behavior.
- Open HP Support Assistant
- Go to Battery Health Check
- Follow the prompts to test and calibrate the battery
This brief white blink is typically harmless and may simply be part of the updated power initialization sequence. If the laptop charges normally and performs well, there’s no need to worry. But if you notice any charging interruptions or battery drain, I’d be happy to help you dig deeper.
Would you like help running a battery report or checking your system logs for power events?

You are very Welcome @DeeSOG
Totally understandable! That little blink can feel suspicious when you’ve just done a bunch of upgrades.
But it sounds like your laptop is simply adjusting to the new hardware and doing its thing.
You’ve handled it like a pro—and now you’ve got a faster, upgraded machine with no real issues to worry about.
If anything else pops up, I’ve got your back. Enjoy your upgraded setup! 😄
Take care, and stay fantastic!
