HI THERE

I have a question on BIOS configuration.

If we want to boot in USB media, then we need to disable secure boot and enable the Legacy but can the boot process going back as normal after that process?

How to going back to normal?

Hi @WexyMaxy

In case you decide to boot from USB device:

- the USB device but be made bootable - live bootable image of an operating system has to be written there the correct way before that. E.g. Linux-based operating system can be written using a software known as Rufus

When ready, plug in the USB device into the PC and restart it.

As soon as the screen goes blank/black, start hitting the Esc button  (like tap-tap-tap-tap)

and HP Startup Menu will open

Press F9 to open the Boot menu options

Select the USB device to boot from

Prior to that you might need to enter BIOS (F10) and

- disable Secure boot

- enable Legacy mode

- save these change and exit

You may revert these changes manually by entering the BIOS again and manually perform the adjustments. It depends on how and in what mode your Windows was installed initially

Do you mean that i do not need to do this step:

Step 3: Restore default BIOS settings

When you have finished using your bootable CD or DVD, restore the default BIOS settings. This enables Secure Boot and sets the Windows Boot Manager as the primary boot device.
1. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F10 key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Computer Setup Utility opens.
2. Under the Exit menu, use the down arrow key to select Load Setup Defaults, then press Enter to confirm the change.
Figure : Exit menu

3. Select Exit Saving Changes, then press Enter to select Yes.
The computer starts Windows with the default settings.

If your Windows currently works with Secure Boot enabled and with Legacy Mode off,

and if you enable Legacy Mode now, you will definitely have to revert the changes to how they were initially - otherwise, your Windows may no longer boot - it depends on settings. Best would be to restore them to how they were.

If Windows currently works with Secure Boot disabled, you may keep Secure Boot disabled. Windows can boot with either options.

Usually, if Windows came preinstalled on your PC when PC was purchased, Secure Boot will be ON, and Legacy Mode will usually be OFF. Then, to boot from a removable media or CD/DVD, you will need to revert these but when ready, you should restore them to how they were initially

Everything needs to be done manually, there is no automatic option, I am afraid.

This is applicable for any vendor and any device with BIOS.
