Hello HP Community,
I’m experiencing an issue with my HP Victus 16.1” Gaming Laptop, cannot locate my NVIDIA GeForce RTX4060 Laptop GPU, it looks like it is not available
In Device Manager, under Display Adapters, I see the following error for my dedicated GPU
“Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)”
The device seems to be either disabled, undetected, or physically disconnected — which is strange for a laptop where the GPU is integrated on the board.
Things I’ve tried so far:
Restarted the system
Checked Device Manager (GPU is missing or grayed out)
Ran the hardware troubleshooter (msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic)
Installed the latest drivers from HP and NVIDIA/AMD
Ran HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2 at boot) – GPU not listed in results as well as BIOS is updated
Verified power settings are set to High Performance
How can I solve this problem?
Thank you in advance for your support!
Best regards,
Kadir

@kcebi, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU on the HP Victus 16.1” laptop. Since the device is not being detected, here are a series of troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the problem.
Check BIOS Settings
Enter BIOS Setup: Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 during boot to access the BIOS.
Check GPU Settings: Look for any settings related to GPU (sometimes listed as Integrated Graphics or Switchable Graphics) and make sure the discrete GPU is enabled. Some systems have the option to enable/disable the dedicated GPU through BIOS.
Reset BIOS to Default: If you're unsure, you can reset BIOS to default settings, which can sometimes resolve issues caused by misconfigured settings.
Save changes and exit BIOS.
Reinstall NVIDIA Drivers (Clean Installation)
Uninstall Current Drivers:
Go to Device Manager → Display Adapters.
Right-click on any listed GPU (if any) and select Uninstall device.
Check the box to delete the driver software for the device if prompted.
Restart your laptop.
Download the Latest NVIDIA Driver:
Go to the NVIDIA Driver Download.
Select your GPU (RTX 4060) and download the latest driver for your system.
Perform a Clean Installation: During installation, select the Custom Installation option, and make sure to select Perform a clean installation. This will remove any old drivers that might be conflicting with the new ones.
Check Windows Power Settings
Open Control Panel → Power Options.
Select High Performance power plan.
Go to Advanced Power Settings, expand PCI Express, and set Link State Power Management to Off.
Additionally, check under Device Manager → Display Adapters → Right-click your GPU → Properties → Power Management tab. Make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
Update Windows and Firmware
Windows Updates: Make sure your system is fully up-to-date by going to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update → Check for updates.
Firmware/BIOS Updates: If you haven't already, go to the HP Support website and make sure you're running the latest BIOS version for your laptop. Sometimes, a BIOS update can help resolve compatibility issues with hardware.
Run HP Diagnostics Again
Press F2 during boot to enter HP Diagnostics.
Run the System Test again, but this time ensure the GPU test is specifically included.
If the GPU isn't listed as part of the test results, it's possible that the hardware is faulty.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
