@Christof65

Which specific error occurred?

The BIOS settings were all defaul, with one exception. I do have virtualization disabled.

My product loan Spectre x360 has an Intel SSD.

There were a few updates that have apparently taken care of the SSD issues. The folder redirect issue that deleted files appears to have been resolved.

Once you get past the audio issue all should be well. Delete both Intel SST and the Intel HD audio devices, then right-click and select scan for hardware changes. The next step is to open the HP Suport Assistant and start the One-click fix for audio.

I know all of  you are not as comfortable as I am with troubleshooting operating systems and hardware.  That is why it wasn't such a big step for me. HP provided us with the Product loans so we can attempt to duplicate their customers issues and help to resolve them

So I will try to remove the Intel Audio driver before the upgrade and try to get the 1809 version from the Windows Insider later this week. Hope that nothing bad will happen again. Let's just see if there's any problems following. If so, we can only wait till HP comes out to solve this annoying problem.

No.

Uninstall the devices, including drivers after the upgrade, not before.

Why would you want to possibly induces more issues than there already are?

Hello erico

The problem that lead to freezing dots during boot up after 1809 upgrade. If i make then a hard reset after waiting for some time, the laptop boots (fortunately still with the old 1803) and the message

Safe_OS Boot Error 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 Installation failed during safe_os phase with error during boot operations

appears.

This error is displayed too, if i make a clean installation.

I'm using a Toshiba SSD 1TB. Dell has an updated driver for this drive (which doesn't run with the ones installed in my HP).

Disable virtualization in the BIOS.

Is the hard disk encrypted?

How much storage space is available?

Have you resset the Windows update components by runnint the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool?

What is the specific Toshiba SSD model?

SSD storage devices have firmware, not drivers.

Yes, virtualization is disabled (but i tried both ways).

No, it's not encrypted or bitlocked.

Of course, you are right, it's a new firmware. My drive specifics:  KXG50ZNV1T02 TOSHIBA  1TB SSD (delivered with the HP Spectre). 500 GB are free available.

So, it's only a guess, that this could be the faulty point. The other parts are the same as yours (except maybe for the Radeon RX Vega M GL Graphics).

All drivers are updated with the HP support assistent and the HP driver section.

Ops, still puzzled. I don't exactly know what you mean by "after the upgrade". So you mean after the installation is patched and before the system reboots the computer, or after the reboot?

I should have used the word update instead of upgrade.

After the reboot.

@Christof65

Yes. It would seem that the Toshiba SSD is the issue. I wanted an SD that was in the middle so I chose 330GB.  It was just coincidental that it was an Intel product.
