Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 (9P833AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,
About two years ago, I purchased the HP Victus 15, which I still use.

Since purchasing it, I've only formatted it twice through Windows settings. Other than that, it hasn't been formatted any other way. My Windows is original.

I've been experiencing a problem with my device for a long time: it uses the integrated Intel HD Graphics graphics card instead of the RTX 4050 graphics card. This slows down performance in games and overall computer operation.
My drivers, Windows, and everything else are up to date.

However, no matter what I do, I can't seem to fix this problem. My computer seems to be refusing to use the RTX 4050 graphics card. How can I fix this?

Hi @poginator

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that so clearly. If your HP Victus 15 isn’t using the RTX 4050 GPU and defaults to Intel HD Graphics, even with updated drivers and a clean Windows install, the issue likely stems from power settings, BIOS configuration, or driver conflicts

Here’s a structured approach to help resolve it

Set Preferred GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel:

  • Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Go to Manage 3D Settings on the left side panel.
  • Under the Global Settings tab, find Preferred graphics processor.
  • Select High-performance NVIDIA processor from the dropdown menu.
  • Apply the changes.

Adjust Settings in Windows Graphics Settings:

  • Open Settings and go to System > Display.
  • Scroll down and click on Graphics settings.
  • Select Desktop app or Microsoft Store app, depending on where your applications are installed.
  • Browse to add the application (e.g., your game) and then click Options.
  • Choose High performance and save the settings.

Ensure Drivers Are Up-to-Date:

  • Use GeForce Experience to update your NVIDIA graphics drivers.
  • Open Device Manager and update the Intel HD Graphics driver as well.

Power Management Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High performance.
  • Ensure that Maximum Performance is selected for the GPU under Power Management Mode in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

BIOS Settings:

  • Check your BIOS settings to see if there's an option to prioritize the dedicated graphics card. Be cautious when adjusting BIOS settings; incorrect changes can affect your system’s functionality.

Check Application-Specific Settings:

  • Some applications or games have an option within their settings to select the GPU used. Check the settings for your games to ensure they are set to use the dedicated GPU.
