Spectra x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I searched but couldn't an answer particular to my issue so I hope someone can help:

I have a Spectra x360 that I bought in 2019, CPU is i7-8565U.

It recently crashed and won't boot up, saying Boot device not found, please install OS on hard disk (03f0).

So I followed the steps on hp support to test memory and hard disk, and they passed.

Next I downloaded the windows 10 installation media onto a USB and boot up there.

It seems to have installed the OS onto my PC, rooted self after completion, but still won't boot up. Instead it asks to install again, repeating.

I also also tried to "repair the PC" menu, tried to fix start-up, put in recovery key, nothing worked.

So what's the next step? Thanks!

@JJSD360

Sorry to say this, but your charging into a reinstall was the wrong thing to do.

First, if the disk checked out, which it did, then most likely, ALL it needed was the boot files rebuilt -- and had you slowed down and posted here, I could have linked you to a free tool to recreated those files and if that worked, you would have been back in business.

Second, if you had done a Repair-Install instead of a Clean-Install, you would have repaired any Windows issues, including boot problems, without trashing what was already there, including the HP drivers -- which you critically needed in order to have the laptop working properly.

But, since you charged ahead, you have overwritten all that and only made it worse.

Since this is a 2019 PC, there is hope that if you properly reinstall this time using HP Recovery Media, you will get the HP utilities and drivers back, and the laptop should then work OK.

You should see if you can make a bootable USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool on a working PC.

The recovery drive can then be used to install Win10 and the HP drivers and utilities that originally came with your PC.

Thanks for your reply.

Following the instruction, I downloaded the HP recovery tool onto a USB, and booted the crashed PC with it.

Now it displays this message:

"Recovery not supported under current configuration, please enable acceleration option for the Intel Smart Response Technology and try again"

What should I do? I am holding th horse here...

The same thing  happened  to me I struggled for weeks.  Following hp instructions and microsoft nothing worked.  I decided to take out ssd and test it on another laptop.  The ssd was working fine I finally decided to test the motherboard with my volt meter. I checked for continuity and found that components on the motherboard were fried including where the ssd was installed.

My SSD and memory passed the test so I think my hardware connection should be OK. I am thinking my last resort might be just send it to HP.

@WAwood can you post the link to the boot file rebuild tool? I might just give it a shot anyway before send to HP.

@WAWood

Hello, I know you are busy helping others, but can you help to post the boot file rebuild link when have a chance (see above)?

Not sure how long the turn-around time is for HP official service, but hoping I can have the PC working again soon. Thanks!
