Hello people, i have buyed this brand new laptop about a week ago. So far so good, i have installed succesfull Ubuntu 20.04 on it from a USB stick made with Rufus, without any problems. Now i want to change it to Windows 10 64bit, but here comes the problem, whatever i have done, it won`t recognize the USB Stick as a bootable device. I have tested the Usb Stick on 2 other laptops, and it boot from it, but this HP doesn`t boot from it, i don`t know why, i don`t know what to do. I have choose in Bios to primary boot device to be USB, and nothing. If someone have some ideas, i would be glad to try them. Thank you.

@BeardedShark

I don't understand -- if you can't boot from USB then HOW did you install Ubuntu in the PC?

My guess is that your PC came in UEFI mode and the Windows media was not created to support that mode.

If you have the ISO file, then use RUFUS to create the Windows Media USB stick as that provides you the option to have it created in UEFI mode.

Also, since you usually have to Disable both Secure Boot and UEFI mode to install Linux, the opposite could be true -- the Windows media IS in UEFI mode but you need boot media that is NOT.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

First, i downloaded the Ubuntu from their website, and made an bootable usb drive with it.

Now i made a new one but with Windows 10, with the steps you said. So far so good, but it booted and it gives me continuously an error, i am stuck again. I have tryed to do HP cloud recovery tool, my model is not supported...

That error code occurs whenever there is an unsucessful clean installation of Windows and as a result it might have bad memory blocks which can cause a corruption in the file system. To clean those bad memory blick, try to do the following steps. Get your Windows 10 installation flashdrive out, which you porbably have given your post. Next do what you normally do when setting up Windows until you reach the portion where you have the option for recovery and/or, usually found right before the actual installation. Next go to Troubleshoot then to Advanced Options then finally onto Command Prompt. From there enter the command:

bcdedit /enum all

Afterwards press enter to initialize the command.

This command would list all the bad memory blocks, as stated before, that would need to be removed or clean.

To delete these bad memory blocks, enter the following command into the command prompt:

bcdedit /deletevalue {badmemory} badmemorylist

Then click the enter key to proceed. If all goes well, your problem should be solved.

Make a Windows 10 Installation medium onto your flashdrive. On Linux download the official iso from Microsoft's website then flash it on your usb drive using a program called balenaEtcher (there are other ways, but for a new user this is the simplest). Then do as what was stated from my previous post.
