Hi @TomKSEMI,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which version of the HP Cloud Recovery Tool are you currently using (latest download from HP’s support site)?
  • Are you running the tool on the same HP 15s system, or on another PC to create the recovery media?
  • Do you see a specific error code or just a generic “download failed” message?
  • Is your internet connection stable during the download, or do you notice interruptions?

Troubleshooting steps to try

  1. Run as Administrator
    • Right‑click the Cloud Recovery Tool and select Run as administrator. This can prevent permission issues during download.
  2. Check network stability
    • If possible, switch to a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi‑Fi. Large image downloads can fail if the connection drops even briefly.
  3. Clear temporary files
    • Delete any partially downloaded recovery image files from C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Local\HPRecovery before retrying.
  4. Update the tool
    • Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Cloud Recovery Tool from HP’s official support page. Older versions sometimes fail with newer product numbers.
  5. Try another USB drive
    • Use a different USB stick (minimum 32 GB, formatted to FAT32) to rule out media issues.
  6. Check firewall/antivirus settings
  • Temporarily disable third‑party antivirus or firewall software that may block the download.

I hope this helps.
