Microsoft Windows 11

This laptop has been consistently crashing since yesterday, with no obvious cause. Additionally, the laptop will not allow us to opt out of S Mode.

@JasonO33, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Laptop Crashing

a) Check for Software Issues

Update Windows: Make sure your system is fully updated. Sometimes, an update might fix stability issues.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for updates.

Check for Driver Updates: Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause crashes. Visit the HP website and search for your laptop model to ensure all your drivers are up to date.

Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic: RAM issues can cause random crashes.

Type Windows Memory Diagnostic in the search bar and run the tool.

Check for Malware: Run a full scan with Windows Defender or another antivirus program, as malware can sometimes cause unexpected crashes.

b) Hardware Checks

Overheating: Check if the laptop is overheating, as it can lead to crashes.

Hard Drive/SSD Health: If your drive is failing, it could cause crashes.

If this issue started recently, a system restore might help return your laptop to a stable state.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Open System Restore.

Opting Out of S Mode

Windows 10 in S Mode limits you to installing apps only from the Microsoft Store. To switch out of S Mode, you should normally be able to do it via the Settings menu

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
