You are very very welcome. Thank you for the kind words.

I am delighted the issue is solved. It's all good when it ends with happy end 🙂

Some tips for future usage:

>> Regularly back-up your most important files on either external drive (e.g. memory cards, USB thumbdrive) or on a cloud storage (e.g. free software like Google Drive, OneDrive, etc...)

>> Keep this recovery media you received from ComputerSurgeons in a safe place 🙂

>> Create your own updated recovery media for free - regularly - e.g once per month >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03544793

All you need is either empty blank DVDs  or  external USB HDD - to store the image

>> Ensure you update WIndows regularly, but not automatically. Go to Control Panel - WIndows Update and configure it to check for updates but not to download and not to install them automatically. Instead, you can install them manually at a time convenient for you once a months or once every two months.... It's good to have the updated but it is not mission critical to have them automatic and to install them every day/every second 🙂 The advantage of the manual update is that it does not always slow down your PC due to network traffic during updates download or PC slow down during installation. You can choose what to install (you might prefer to skip some updates if you want).

>> Ensure your PC is well protected. Use a firewall, ensure your most important apps are updated to latest version, use reputable antivirus program.

If you choose to stick to Microsoft's built-in Windows Defender - make sure you update it on daily bases. You may also add these free tools and scan occasionally:

> Hitman Pro - http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro

> Malwarebytes AM - https://www.malwarebytes.com/  - free version only, do not enable free trial

> ESET Online scanner - http://download.eset.com/special/eos/esetonlinescanner_enu.exe

Use browser add-ons like Disconnect.me , Ublock Origin, WebOfTrust WOT, etc....

>> Ensure your PC is optimized and free from temporary files- you can use a free app like CCleaner (www.piriform.com) or built-in Windows's Disk Clean-up

Good luck @geegeesgirl! Feel free to post again or PM me if you face difficulties or just to say hello. 🙂

Do I need to disable my firewall or other anti-virus before installing Malwarebytes?

HP Recommended

No, the firewall is a firewall and most firewalls should not be disabled under no curcumstances (unless you are sure disabling it will help). Malwarebytes's is antispyware/anti-malware product - the free version is just on-demand scanner used for second opinion (in addition to the Anvirus software that should provide real-time protection). Same for the suggested HitmanPro and ESET Online scanner - just on-demand scanners for second opinion in addition to the antivirus program.
