I'm looking to create/download some kind of disk/drive that I could boot with to get the PC back to original setup if there was a problem.

Hi, Sherry:
See if your notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool and use that to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...
