I am using a 64GB USB drive for recovery. It has been formatting the drive for a half hour or more, and I have no idea how much longer it will take.
Could a progress meter for the format process be made available to provide an expected time frame in which I can go and get a cup of coffee? Even an estimated time up front would be useful.
Thanks.

Are you using the HP recovery media creator to make a usb recovery media flash drive?
It is recommended to not use a usb flash drive that has more than 32GB storage capacity.
That is probably why it is taking so long.
The recovery media creation process should take less than 10-15 minutes to make the recovery media flash drive..

Thanks Erico.
After an hour and a half the process crashed with "We are experiencing errors in recovery media creation. Please try again.".
I suppose I had better get a 32GB flash drive. Would be a nice idea if HP suggests this fact on their media creator screen.

You are very welcome.
Please don't forget to come back and let us know how the recovery media creation went.

Finally got a 32GB memory stick and the process worked correctly. I now can recover Instead on dropping back to Windows 8 - as embedded on my solid state disk.
How do we ask HP to put an info message on the Recovery screen?

Good idea. Was on my mobile phone. I can make the suggestion to HP.
If you mark my other post as the solution, it can be found when others with the same issue are searching for a solution online or in the HP Forum.

Thanks Erico,
And while you are communicating with HP, perhaps point out to them that greater than 32GB memory sticks are quite common now. Maybe an info message is not the right solution, but fix the program to tolerate the bigger USB sticks.
