Hi there, I have just purchased a Pavilion Notebook. When I checked the Drivers & Devices I noticed that I only have 2.77Gb out of 24.7Gb of free space left on the RECOVERY [D]. Is this normal ? Should the D drive be THAT full on DAY ONE of useage ?
I don't know a thing about this area of computers & would be very greatful if you could keep the reply very simple.
Also when I purchased the computer it was sold to me as having 725 gig of memory, Windows [C] drive is showing 633gb remaining of 672 Gb remaining. Have I been misled on Memory Capacity ?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi:
HP only makes the recovery partition (D:\ drive) large enough to accomodate the recovery files, so everyone's PC's show an almost full recovery partition.
Never store any files on that partition.
The hard drive is probably a 750 GB drive in total. But here is a formula to calculate the net usable space of a blank 750 GB hard drive...
You never get the "full amount" of a hard drive - the manufacturer of a hard drive measures the drive capacity in actual bytes - not GB.
698GB = 714,752 MB = 731,906,048 KB = 749,471,793,152 B
749,471,793,152 Bytes = 750GB by the manufacturer, but in actual GB, it is 698.
So...
You are starting off with 698 GB of usable space on a 750 GB hard drive.
The files on the C:\ drive are taking up 39 GB
The D:\ drive you have already stated is using 24.7 GB.
698 - (39+24.7) = 634.3 GB remaining.
Close enough for government work.

Hello @vortexx, Welcome to HP Support Forum.
We should be able to work together and obtain more space on your drive:
- Run the Disk Cleanup tool, and then at the bottom of the window that pops up, click on "Clean up system files". Check everything, hit OK, and let it run. You will free up several GB for sure.
- Another thing to do is disable hibernate file. Run CMD as Administrator, and type the following:
- powercfg hibernate off
- Enjoy your extra space!

OK, thanks for the assistance. I'll try these options and get back to you ASAP. I'll be traveling to the site that has this problem this weekend. Better I tend to this matter than to try to try to supervise someone over the phone.
