Hi @JimmyCoding

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm really sorry your HP ENVY 17t-da0000 is freezing and crashing so frequently—especially with a stop code like DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. That kind of instability can be deeply disruptive, and we’ll walk through a focused set of steps to help restore smooth, reliable performance.

What the Error Means

The stop code DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (0x9F) typically indicates that a device driver is failing to transition between power states—often during sleep, wake, or shutdown. This can cause freezing, crashing, or unexpected restarts.

Step-by-Step Fixes to Stabilize Your System

1. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause power state conflicts.

  • Visit the HP ENVY 17t-da0000 Driver Page
  • Download and install the latest:
    • BIOS update
    • Chipset driver
    • Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI)
  • Restart your system after installation

2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

This checks for hardware faults that may trigger system instability.

  • Turn off the laptop
  • Press Power and immediately tap Esc
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  • Run the System Test and Component Tests (especially memory and storage)

More info: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

3. Perform a Clean Boot

This helps isolate software conflicts that may be causing the crash.

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, press Enter
  • Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all
  • Go to Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all startup items
  • Restart your laptop and observe behavior

You can re-enable services and startup items after testing.

4. Check Device Manager for Driver Issues

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager
  • Expand categories like Display adapters, Network adapters, and Storage controllers
  • Right-click each device > Update driver > Search automatically
  • If any device shows a yellow warning icon, uninstall and restart to reinstall

5. Disable Fast Startup

This can help prevent power state conflicts during boot.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Save changes and restart

Let me know if you'd like help interpreting diagnostic results or locating specific drivers. Once these steps are complete, your system should feel more stable and responsive.
