Hi, i wanted intall linux in my computer hp, but i found the RST problem at i try a lot of ways to install linux, in my BIOS never showed the option to change the NVMe disk controller to AHCI, here just showed two disk in my computer, one of 150GB, that is where all the information storage it has AHCI controller, and other of 16GB with NVMe controller, the last work above the AHCI controller and dont let other OS read it, when i tried intall linux it reads that disk, so couldnt install, to resolve that, i just opened the bottom cover and found the Intel MEMPEKIJ016GAH disk, which was a small card like RAM or a solid state drive. I removed it, turned on the laptop, and was able to install Linux.

I hope this help to somebody.

@DankV, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP device.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If you're facing issues installing Linux due to the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) and NVMe settings, follow these steps to resolve the problem:

  1. BIOS/UEFI Settings:

    • Access BIOS Setup: Restart your computer and press 'F10' (or the key specified for your model) to enter the BIOS setup menu.
    • Disable RST: If available, look for an option to disable Intel RST and enable AHCI mode for SATA operation. This may be under categories like Storage Options, or SATA Configuration.
    • NVMe Settings: If your BIOS does not have a direct option to switch to AHCI mode, check if there is any option related to NVMe settings that can be adjusted.
  2. Boot Parameters:

    • During the installation of Linux, pass parameters to handle RST issues. When booting from the Linux installation media, access advanced options and enter kernel parameters such as nvme_load=YES and nomodeset.
  3. Use Live Linux Environment:

    • Use a live Linux session to access your drives. From here, you can check partition statuses and configurations. You might need to adjust partitions to ensure correct boot configurations.
  4. BIOS Update:

    • Check for any BIOS updates for your HP model on the official HP support website, as a newer version may provide more options for disk configuration.
  5. Install Linux on External Drive:

    • As a workaround, consider installing Linux on an external USB drive or SSD if the internal NVMe configuration remains incompatible, at least until the main issue can be resolved.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
