I cannot get this laptop to open to the internet! I have sat here for 3 hours doing everything you have said to do! I have work to do and I cannot do any of it! I cannot even find this battery you’re talking about.  What next????

Hi @LezlieB

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can hear the frustration in your words, and I truly appreciate the time and effort you’ve already put in trying to get this laptop online.

Let’s shift focus directly to the internet connection itself and walk through clear steps that should help you connect without worrying about the battery right now.

Step 1: Check Wi‑Fi Status

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows key + A to open Quick Settings.
  2. Make sure Wi‑Fi is turned on.
  3. Select your home network and click Connect.
  4. Enter the Wi‑Fi password if prompted.

Step 2: Forget and Reconnect to the Network

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi‑Fi.
  2. Click Manage known networks.
  3. Select your home Wi‑Fi and choose Forget.
  4. Reconnect by selecting the network again and entering the password.

Step 3: Run Network Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  2. Scroll down and select Network troubleshooter.
  3. Follow the on‑screen steps to detect and fix issues.

Step 4: Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings.
  2. Select Network reset.
  3. Click Reset now.
  4. The laptop will restart and reinstall network adapters.
  5. Reconnect to your Wi‑Fi after restart.

Step 5: Check Airplane Mode

  • Ensure Airplane Mode is off.
  • You can toggle this quickly with Windows key + A.

Step 6: Update Wireless Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (press Windows key + X, then select Device Manager).
  2. Expand Network adapters.
  3. Right‑click your wireless adapter and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers.

Step 7: Test with Ethernet Cable

  • If possible, connect the laptop directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
  • If the internet works through cable, the issue is isolated to Wi‑Fi.

These steps should help you get the laptop back online. Since you’ve already spent hours trying, I’d recommend starting with the Network reset and driver update steps—they often clear stubborn connection issues quickly.
