Hi  @kjm31,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how it must be to see update errors like 0x80004002 when trying to keep your Windows 11 system secure and up to date. Don’t worry I will help you with this.
This error usually points to missing or corrupted update files, and we can walk through some steps to fix it together.

Could you please share your HP laptop or desktop model number

Kindly follow the below steps :

1.Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Update

Click Run next to Windows Update

Allow the tool to detect and repair issues automatically

2.Repair System Files

Corrupted system files often block updates.

Open Command Prompt (Admin)

Type: sfc /scannow

Wait for the scan to complete and repair files

3.Clear Update Cache

Corrupted cache files can block downloads.

Stop Windows Update service

Press Win + R, type services.msc

Stop Windows Update service

Delete contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Restart the service

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
