Hello to all guys,
due to a virus I deleted all partitions and formatted the drive, previously there was W10 Home installed, 32 bit
Now W10 is impossible to successful install it back, don't ask me why, here a list of the steps:
- W10 installation starts via USB
- As soon as you're prompted to connect it to internet, as soon as this happen it stops to respond for several minutes (pointer stops, keyboard not working)
- after more than one hour the installation complete successful but
a) the system freeze randomly, for several minutes
b) no audio detected at all
c) windows report that the screen is not touch capable
I try to install W8.1 using the same win key stored into the BIOS but it is not accepted, if I use a key rescued from internet, just to continue the troubleshooting, the screen touch is not working and as soon as you update the ELAN drivers via WU you can waste the device
I was wondering if there is an original HP ISO for this device, I'm not interested about which windows it should be capable, but I would to recover back this device, if it is possible.
What do you think? Thanks in advance

Hi @SuperMatico69, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your HP Pavilion x2 - 10-n002nl likely has specific drivers and firmware that aren't playing well with a clean Windows installation. Here are some steps you can try to recover your device:
1. Try HP Cloud Recovery Tool (If Available)
HP offers a Cloud Recovery Tool for many devices, allowing you to reinstall the original factory image, including all drivers.
- Download the HP Cloud Recovery Tool on another PC from HP official site.
- Insert a USB drive (at least 32GB).
- Run the tool, enter your Product ID (10-n002nl), and see if an official HP recovery image is available.
- Boot from the recovery USB and restore your system.
2. Windows 10 Installation Issues
Since the device originally came with Windows 10 Home 32-bit, but now it's freezing and missing drivers, try the following:
- Use Windows 10 Version 1607 (Anniversary Update): Newer builds of Windows 10 may not fully support this hardware. Download an older ISO (from sites like UUP Dump or Archive.org).
- Use a Different USB Drive & Port: Sometimes, installation issues happen due to faulty USB media.
- Disable Internet During Installation: The system might be freezing due to automatic driver updates from Windows Update. Try installing offline, then manually install drivers later.
- Boot to Safe Mode After Install: If Windows 10 freezes, boot into Safe Mode (Shift + Restart from login screen > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Enable Safe Mode`).
3. Windows 8.1 Installation Issues
If you want to install Windows 8.1, but the OEM key in BIOS isn't accepted:
- Use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool for Windows 8.1 Single Language, as HP devices often ship with this version.
- If it still doesn't accept the key, you may need to inject the BIOS key manually using RWEverything or ShowKeyPlus.
4. Touchscreen & Audio Issues
- Install HP Drivers Manually: Go to the HP Pavilion x2 10-n002nl Drivers Page and download Chipset, Graphics, Touchscreen (ELAN), and Audio drivers.
- Disable Windows Update for Drivers: Windows might install incompatible versions. Use Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) to disable driver updates.
- Rollback ELAN Touchscreen Driver: If updating the ELAN driver causes failure, try rolling back to the default version.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Max3Aj and thanks for your answer.
Finally
1. HP recovery tool was not available for that device
I saw on MS account the OS key registered is the windows 10 version 2009 (20H2) 32 bit, of course; after a lot of time wasted with W10 installation I preferred to start with W8.1 instead
I discovered I need a VL but I was not able to find the home edition, so I downloaded the Pro one and I bought a digital product key to activated (€ 1.50), everything fine but I had to browse one by one the unknown devices and find the related drivers on the web
Ok, you need just time and patience, and finally I got it:
- All peripherals are without exclamation or question mark
- The screen is touchable
The problem is that now
- I have a speaker icon on systray but I don't have sounds at all
- Windows update refuse to works giving me the error 8007000E
If, at this point, I try to update the OS to the Windows 10 20H2 version:
- The screen is no more touchable
- Windows update works, but the sound appear during a driver update process and disappear forever after another update, in the same WU session
- Windows is no more activated, but this should be normal coming from W 8.1...
So, with many thanks to Acronis True Image (I did a clone after a W8.1 successful installation), I roll back to W8.1 but now I'm stuck with the initial problems (no WU and no audio). If I can fix this W8.1, I'll clone it and only after that I'll try with the W10 anniversary version you'd mentioned
Thanks in advance

Hi @SuperMatico69,
Thank you for your response, I am here to help you. Thank you for reaching out, and I appreciate your detailed update on the situation. I can understand how frustrating it must be to deal with these issues after such an extensive process, and I’m here to help you get things resolved.
Based on the steps you've taken and the issues you're encountering, it seems like you're dealing with a couple of specific problems related to both your sound and Windows Update functionality. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot these problems:
1. Fixing the Sound Issue
The sound issue you're experiencing is often related to missing or incompatible drivers. Since you’ve already manually found drivers for your peripherals, I recommend trying the following steps to get your audio working properly:
Reinstall Audio Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager (press Windows + X and select Device Manager).
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device. Confirm the uninstallation.
- Restart your computer, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the correct drivers automatically.
- If the sound still doesn't work, visit your computer or motherboard manufacturer's support page and download the latest drivers for your audio device.
Check Audio Settings:
- Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Playback devices.
- Ensure your default audio device is set correctly and that the volume is up.
Run the Windows Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Playing Audio.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to detect and fix any audio issues.
2. Fixing Windows Update Error 8007000E
The Windows Update error 8007000E typically indicates an issue with the update components, which can be related to corrupted system files or problems with the update cache. Here’s what you can try:
Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update.
- Run the troubleshooter and let Windows automatically detect and resolve issues.
Reset Windows Update Components:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator by right-clicking and selecting Run as Administrator.
- Type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:
- After completing these steps, try running Windows Update again to see if the issue is resolved.
Manually Install the Update: If the issue persists, you can download the Windows 10 Update manually:
- Visit the Microsoft Update Catalog.
- Search for the update that you need (e.g., 20H2), download the appropriate version for your system, and manually install it.
I hope this helps.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

Hello Sneha_01, thanks for your reply
Actually I just discovered that, if I install Windows 8.1 Pro VL update 3 (the first attempt was with an older version of 8.1) WU works fine (123 mandatory updates)
Unfortunately, for the audio problem, in the device manager nothing is missing. All devices are without question/exclamation mark, so if the related audio item is missing, how can you update/install it?
It is, maybe, integrated in the CPU? I browse all the System devices and I didn't find anything about audio
I discover also that as soon as I update the ELAN touchpad driver, doesn't matter if in win 8.1 or 10, the whole keyboard stop to work
I suspect this ELAN behaviour happened also during W10 installation, at the step where you let the system to connect to internet, while you're continuing with the installation wizard, as soon as the OS start to update that driver in background the system freeze, I told; that's not true, the keyboard just stop to respond and the screen is not still touchable so the system is just waiting your input, but you're not able to give it in any way: you're stuck
I'll give you updates about this nightmare but not so often: that device is so old with a very poor hardware that you need ages to do all this huge stuff

Hi,
actually I didn't solve anything. Now with windows 8 fully updated I just cloning the drive with Acronis before to continue, just to save time the next trouble (I installed the OS at least 10 times before)
In the while just tell me how can I install/update the audio device if in the device manager the device is completely missing
tks

Thanks mate,
before to follow your suggestion I still have some idea to act. I knew a lot of customer support in the last 27 years and what I learned is enough to leave that option as last, may be not at all 😎
Due to not a popular device, I'll not update this thread in any way, it'll be not useful for anyone except myself in the world
Thanks to all for your time, I'm an HP customer since 15 years and this Community experience is another positive aspect that will keep me as a customer for the rest of my life. HP forever! 😘
Thanks again and have a nice time

Hello guys
I did it, finally
Now everything in device manager is without problem, audio and touchscreen works fine
Only one thing remain unsolved: the CAM is an Intel one. I looked for its drivers on Intel web site but I read an Official Intel post that, for this kind of webcam, they not provide any driver/software and they forward you to the manufacturer of your device, in my case HP
Do you know where I can find this HP/Intel CAM drivers? Otherwise I'll arrange it in another way, tks
