I'm in the diagnostics app on my laptop. It's invited me to update the bios (I think that's what it was, it seemed to suggest a general driver update of some kind), and it's been like this for about half an hour and counting. Is this ok? I don't want to interrupt it and cause a bigger problem!

Force stop it if kept going for few hours . It got glitched. As for driver updates, windows update can handle it easily and install missing drivers. You can avoid this update from app

It's likely tool bug and wasn't actually updating anything.
