That blue screen error—DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION—is Windows’ way of saying, “A driver on your system seriously messed up.” Specifically, it means a driver violated rules related to Direct Memory Access (DMA), which is how hardware devices talk directly to your system’s memory. 

 

When the Driver Verifier tool is enabled (either manually or by Windows), it keeps a close eye on drivers for bad behavior—and this one got caught red-handed.

 

Here’s what typically causes it:

  • A faulty or outdated driver, especially for graphics, storage, or network devices.
  • Incompatible third-party software that installs low-level drivers.
  • Corrupted system files or a misconfigured Driver Verifier setup.

🛠 What You Can Do

Boot into Safe Mode
If your system keeps crashing, try booting into Safe Mode:

  • Power on and force shut down (hold power button) as Windows loads. Do this twice.
  • On the third boot, Windows should enter Recovery Mode.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart, then press 4 for Safe Mode.

Disable Driver Verifier

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Type: verifier /reset and press Enter.
  • Restart your PC.

Update or Roll Back Drivers

  • In Device Manager, look for any devices with a yellow warning icon.
  • Update drivers, or roll back recent ones—especially for graphics, storage, or USB controllers.

Run System File Checker

  • In Command Prompt (Admin), run: sfc /scannow

Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
