I am trying to uninstall HP ProtectTools Security Manager as it is a prerequisite to installing Windows 10.  However, upon trying to uninstall it throught Control Panel > Programs & Features, I get the following error message:

error1325.PNG

Title Bar: HP ProtectTools Security Manager Installer Information

Error Message: Error 1325.Hewlett-Packard is not a valid short file name.

I am logged into a local administrator account.  I have tried using Revo-Uninstaller but it does not find HP ProtectTools Security Manager.

Any advice or solutions for uninstalling this would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

This is going to sound weird, but this actually has a really simple solution. Go into the device manager and disable your DVD drive. Then run the uninstall and it should avoid the error. You can re-enable afterwards without any issues.

I am also getting this error and would appreciate to hear about a solution to this: how to completely remove HP ProtectTools.

This is in order to install Windows 10.

Thanks.

My solution was to just install a fresh copy of Windows 7 then perform the upgrade from 7 to 10.  No idea how else to deal with the error unfortunately.

This is in the last resort. Any other option?

first install the Frameworks

control Panel > Turn Windows Feature on net. 3.5 an 4.6

reboot

Install  the Intel® Chipset Device Software  setupchipset.exe

reboot

install the HP Device Access Manager goes with 10

reboot

Install HP Client Security Manager goes with 10

reboot

My laptop is a 4520s. Originally with windows 7, now with windows 8.1

I am trying to upgrade to windows 10, but windows says that need to remove HP ProtectTools for the installation to go ahead.

The previous post is not clear... The suggestion proposed does not deal with HP ProtectTools, and also the software is not compatible with my laptop. And, I dont want to have any HP security software installed!..

Thanks.

HP ProtectTools Security Manager is now HP Client Security Manager.

Back up your important data NOW as any upgrades to system software can cause system failure and data loss.

Download & install the latest Client Security Manager at the link below.  It passes the Windows 10 upgrade compatibility check.  A good number of us have had success with this method.

Download Link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72501-73000/sp72998.exe

*Note: if you have the drive encrypted, you will need to unencrypt it first.

I appreciate the responses but I have already reinstalled a clean Windows 7 as my workaround.  Thank you for the responses.  Hopefully you can help elinap with this issue.
