Hello @Aedockery612,

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

This is happening because Windows cannot start/boot .It may be caused due to hardware problem (e.g. your HDD, less likely) or it may be caused by faulty Windows Update, some other faulty update/driver, corrupted bootloader / Boot Configuration Data in Windows etc....

1. Perform some basic hardware checks to rule out hardware problem

- Please, shutdown the computer using the power button (pressed and hold for a few seconds until PC powers off)

- Power the computer back on.

As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) before any logo appears. This should open a HP Startup Menu

- Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1

If there are no system checks/no quick tests, perform HDD (hard disk drive) and RAM check (memory check).

Let me know the test results. If the tests pass without issues, continue. If not, please, let me know

2. Repeat steps 1-2 above but when HP Startup menu opens, please choose F11 for System Recovery options.

The computer should boot from it's recovery partition to open you various recovery options. Note, that F11 option will only work if the recovery partition is there (not deleted) and intact. From there, you have prenty of options to choose from. Every HP computer comes with recovery partition present to assist in tough moments.

Please, perform "System Restore" first in an attempt to fix the issue. Please, restore back to previous days (restore point) where the issue was not present. Here is more info:

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. Provide your feedback/reply.

If the steps above didn't help, you need to repair the Windows boot process.

Will post instructions for Windows 10

- You can directly download Windows 10 ISO from MS site or download >> Media creation tool from Microsoft site, create installation DVD or installation USB  and  proceed with clean installation/reinstallation.

Download:

Make sure you select the proper version (32 or 64 bit / Home or Pro)

Media Creation tool will always provide you with the latest Windows version/build - now 1709 Fall Creators Update.

- When download completes, you will need to write  the ISO image and boot from a bootable media. You will need a blank USB pendrive (min 4 GB capacity). Use the Media Creation tool.

When ready with the USB drive :

Please, shutdown the computer using the power button.

Insert the Windows USB thumdrive prepared previously

Power on the PC.

As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately start hitting the Esc button repeatedly (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu

Choose F9 to open Boot options. Select the USB thumb drive as a boot option.

Follow the on-screen instructions to boot to Windows.

** Do NOT** proceed to reinstall Windows. When the screen loads, select your language and choose "Repair your computer"

It should detect your Windows 7 installation

Reference instructions >> https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/start-the-windows-7-recovery-environment/

*** Try to Select the option to run automatic repair

If it says it fixed things, restart the PC and see if your PC can now boot fine

--If things are well, you are done.

-- If not, please, boot again (F9) from the Windows 10 USB or DVD, load  "Repair your computer" and open Command Prompt (CMD)

Reference instuctions >> https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/32523/how-to-manually-repair-windows-7-boot-loader-problems/

Type

bootrec /fixmbr

and press [ENTER].  When ready, type

bootrec /fixboot

and press [ENTER].

Finally, type

bootrec /rebuildBCD

and hit [ENTER].

When ready, close the CMD prompt (windows) and restart your computer.

Hopefully, PC should eventually boot to Desktop.

I have the same issue and I've followed your instructions. My problem is after I boot from USB, it doesn't give me instructions. Instead it goes to a black blank screen.

Hello @Bi4prog

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Apologies for the late response !

I checked it and the error code you provided tells me that the hard disk drive (HDD) has failed.  Since this is faulty HDD/hardware component, you will probably not be able to recovery your files. If you want to attempt data recovery, please let me know and I may post additional instructions.

Here are your options on fixing the problem:

1) Your computer is with warranty period expired. You will need to replace the faulty HDD - buy a new one on your own. There are variety of options - vendors you can choose from. You can get it online or from PC retail store, or from HP parts store http://partsurfer.hp.com/

You need HDD with the very same size as the current one or bigger (small will not work) - e.g. if your current HDD is with 500 GB capacity, your new HDD/SDD must also be 500 GB or with bigger capacity.  I recommend you consider HDDs with RPM 7200 as they as slightly faster, 5400 RPM is slower >> https://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/rpm.htm

*** How to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD:  please, find info and instruction in your computer's manual or watch YouTube videos examples for your HP model.

Here is the service manual for your model:

page 44/54

If you do not want to do this on your own, please bring the computer (or ship it) to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:

2) Last part - once you replace the faulty component - you will need to reinstall back your operating system - Windows or another. So, as your computer originally came with Windows preinstalled by HP (a.k.a. OEM Windows), then you need to use HP recovery media - DVDs or USB pen drive you have previously created   or   recovery media purchased from HP. Some general info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110

This is the recovery media for your PC model - it contains Windows OS, drivers, preinstalled apps

Open the URL . Choose your operating system / Microsoft - Windows 10. Submit. Once drivers populate, scroll down to "Order Recovery Media - CD/DVD/USB" and click on it to expand it. Click on "Order Media" and follow the steps to order original recovery media for your PC model.

You need to purchase it and boot from the media to install back Windows on the new drive. Here are full detailed instructions >> http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&section=ccweb&sfs=tdoc&lc=en&language=e...

Please, let me know how it goes and do post back if you need assistance. Looking forward to your feeback/reply.
