HP Stream laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I keep getting an error message while trying to update my software. It’s only a 4gb laptop but it’s stressing me out.
It won’t even let me plug in a hard drive and upload to there.

Also how do I change my iPhone back up to a hard drive?

Any help?

Hi

A Stream can be annoying because of it's limited capacity (32GB is the norm).

Usually you have a cloud account and a large USB for storing data etc.

So you need to clean/clear your stream down to the basics first.

Not really addressed your issues have I?

If in doubt please ask.

So I can use a 2gb hard drive that I have and do a back up to my iPhone on that? If so how do I do that?
Also how do I strip back computer? It’s saying there is vital updates and it can’t update as storage is full...

Hi

I have no idea.

Does your apple thingy (I gather they come in a variety of varieties) connect via bluetooth or similar?

Are they both on the same network for file transfer?

Sharing folders etc.

Is there any kind of port and cable to tether the apple thingy to a laptop?

smb is not horrendous to have, but yet again may need a download and space.

Piriform CCleaner if you have the space to install it will clean quite a lot.

Windows Administrative   Disk Cleanup may also do a good job?

Please try something then ask again.

@jenwaldie

You're confusing Memory with Disk Space.  The 4GB is memory and that has nothing to do with storing files or doing updates.

The 32GB is disk space and that is what is filling up.

Here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:

In addition, I have found the utility Cleanmgr+ to have LOTS of options for removing Windows junk, including log files. I use it practically every day. You can get it from here:
https://www.mirinsoft.com/cleanmgrplus

Also, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

I think I’m gonna wipe it and start it up again...

Is there any way of using iTunes on my Extra 2TB usb hard drive to back up my iPhone as this laptop won’t even back my iPhone up!

@jenwaldie

Wiping it and redoing it will NOT free up the space you need.  Windows install will take a LOT of the space, as it creates temporary files it does NOT remove.  Then, Windows Update will start and tie your PC up for Hours, or Days, filling up the disk space in the process.  In the end, you will end up Worse than you would be of you simply used the links I provided to free up disk space.
