HP ENVY Laptop - 17t-cg000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Everyone once in a while my laptop starts-up in a  "Bit Lock Recovery" loop.

Looped through 3 times this morning.

I have never setup this feature up so I have zero codes to "recover one".

What can I do to never see this "Bit Lock Recovery" blue screen ever again?

Hello @cd1223444

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community !

BitLocker is a Microsoft software designed to protect your PC against offline attacks, unauthorized access typically if your PC gets stolen. BitLocker is full disk encryption software. More info:

BitLocker was activated by someone and during the PC activation time it prompts the user to save/store the key in a safe place.

** If this is a company owned asset/tablet, you should turn to your company's IT support guys and they should be able to provide you with the recovery key

** If this is your own personal device, and if you are not aware of Bitlocker key, most probably you use a slightly different BitLocker version for certain PCs and tablets known as Device encryption. Probably your key is stored in Microsoft OneDrive with your Microsoft account here :

Please, note that it is very important for security reasons that you keep the encryption key (Bitlocker key) in a secure place so that only you know it.

Try these and let me know if you manage to find the key.

If you want to keep Bitlocker ON, please, check this TKB article and follow the steps >> https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Knowledge-Base/Bitlocker-continuous-prompts-for-entering-the...

Let me know how it goes

My father in law is having this exact same issue. He purchased this same model direct from HP, and recently when he turns the laptop on, it boots to the bitlocker recovery screen.

The laptop is running Windows 10 Home edition. Windows 10 Home edition doesn't even support Bitlocker. If he powers the laptop off and on again, sometimes he gets around the Bitlocker screen. I had him try to go into the Bitlocker management settings to turn Bitlocker off, but since it's Windows 10 Home edition, those settings don't even exist for him to configure.

Really disappointed with this development. I have him contacting support to try and get this resolved, as there is obviously something goofy with the install image that was used on this laptop. Hopefully he isn't going to have to wipe the drive and start from scratch.

*Edit*
It looks like Bitlocker Device Encryption is supported in Windows 10 Home edition now, but there is still no way to configure it from within the OS? I found a registry key, but I obviously don't want to mess with that without doing due diligence and finding other solutions first. It was never explicitly enabled by my father in law, and it doesn't explain why now suddenly he's having issues with booting occasionally. A very irritating issue.
