Hello,
I am trying to figure out why this laptop now takes 4 mins or so to load. I have ran the Performance Tune-up here at the HP site as well as ran the Operating System Check. All was good. I went to settings and checked in Apps and only 1 utlilty was allowed start up. I went to msconfig and checked services and only the Microsoft and HP programs were "able" then to Task Manager and nothing on there except the 1 Realtek Utility. I went in and checked the ProgramData for start menu- nothing there that I can tell as well as checked AppData for Startup..... I have uninstalled some updates, software and am still at a loss. Is there somewhere or some rock I haven't looked under? I have the AMD -10 9620P Quad Processors, I modifed the number of processors or activated the other 2 through the Performance Monitor as well as the Graphics and still no help. I have tried about everything but there seems I have missed a key somewhere. I have 8GB of DDR3(RAM) I benched my Multi Core for a score of 4082 and graphcs score was 18360 using GeekBench - with nothing but essentials several minutes doesnt seem plausible given the unit isnt that slow.
Thanks for any help or direction.

First thing would be to do a Disk Cleanup.
Check everything except Delivery Optimization Files
Then do a Disk Defrag. “OPTIMIZE”
Then go to Advanced System Settings.
In the Performance box click on SETTINGS.
Click on Adjust for Best Performance.
Click on APPLY.
Then click on the ADVANCED tab.
In the Virtual Memory box click on CHANGE.
Uncheck everything except Custom Size:
Set Initial Size (MB): to a number higher than Recommended:
Then set Maximum Size (MB): To a number higher than the Initial Size (MB)
Click SET, OK and reboot.

When was the last time you deleted the files in the temp folder?
Just how close to the maximum storage capacity is the hard disk in your notebook?
It should never be more than 90%full for virtual memory reasons.
When was the last time you refreshed the virtual memory file?
Did you look at the processes tab in the task managerto see if there is something there that is using up the cPU cycles of using an inordinate amount of memory?
In the Startup tab, what is the lasty BIOS time recorded?

Hello,
To answer your questions:
I normally delete the %temp@% plus Prefetch daily. I have a 1TB HDD plus I keep 90% of files on 1TB external h.d. I use a Sandisk Ultra 3.0 64GB and throw the ReadyBoost at it & by the time I can get Task Manager up after the delays the CPU is winding down. The BIOS time says 5.8 sec's. - so to me there's no logical reason for the sluggish boot. I even disabled all non essentials in msconfig service. I have virtual memory set at 12288 but wait....I am looking at Resource Monitor and under processes & ComptTle.runner zapping 22% but it just dropped down. The HD was replaced 5 months ago but I had it back at HP for warranty 2 weeks ago and supposedly checked the HD and all test came back good. The letter said it would run slow until I updated but that was accomplished after the 2nd day given I set it off to the side to update & load software. The only thing I see in Resource monitor is in Processes its using 127% Max frequency. Not positive on that aspect. I tried running AutoRun to provide a full roster and the time it stopped right under aHKCU\control panel\desktop\scansave.exe at C:\windows\system32\logon.screxe. and says File not found - normally it shows all programs. Going to AppData down to menu programs and Startup that folder is empty. Memory is good. I ran the extended test in Memory Diag last week - it ran for 13 hrs & no issues. I have version 1803 that's update daily. I got 1809 on my other system - they say 1809 is missing files but seems to run good. Anyhow I am stumped. I ran DISM SFC CHKDSK all good. There it is.... I am wondering if its some malware ? I use BitDefender with RogueKiller since conflict with BitDef. - I have IExplorer which checks for processes but it reports no issues and that's by BleepingComputer. Ran the Microsoft safety scanner plus Malicious Tool removal = all clean but somewhere I am missing something or it wouldn't take that much time. Even uninstalled the last 4 Windows Updates.
I am perplexed & lost...

In the Task Manager have you looked at the Startup tab to see what is there and the Startup impact of each item?
There may be some app there that is listed having a high inpact on your boot time.

That was it !! Thank you ! am somewhat embarrassed since the issue wasnt hardware or software .... it was "lack of paying attention error," I had incorrectly inputed the min and max values the same explainging the extended boot time. Your input, and everyones on this issue, has saved me and hopefully many others from going down that road of frustration when changing values in the Virtual Memory. I of course followed everyones advice who contributed and now have a broader prospective on the O.S.
KUDOS and MAJOR HIGH 5's to you all ! It taken me a few extra days to get back at you, out of town on business.
Again, thanks !
