I just purchased a laptop from Target and set it up with no issue. I wanted to create a windows account but was unable to because it required me to enter a password. I dont remember making one. So I decided to factory reset it so I could start over with the set-up process.
To initiate the reset I got the f11 key after powering on and selected the full reset without saving any files. I started the process about 4 hours ago and it moved slowly but steadily. The screen shows the HP logo and "resetting this PC" with moving dots in a circle. It is now "stuck" at 40% for about the last hour. I'm not sure if his is normal or if something went wrong. Please help!

Hi:
You are probably beyond the normal factory reset time. Shouldn't take more than 2 -3 hours.
If it doesn't complete by the time you turn in for the night, you can make a bootable USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool, and another working Windows PC, that will factory reset the notebook for you as well.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility.
