Flickering Screen, to Black.

On startup I sometimes get a violently flickering screen, with horizontal bands until eventually it worsens to a black screen. To resolve the problem I have to turn off and restart. Sometimes it keeps happening, so I have to restart multiple times.

This does not happen when i connect to an external monitor such as a Television.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks.

• When was the last time it worked without these issues?
• Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?

let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting, 

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

• Note: As you've confirmed it works fine on an external monitor it sounds like hardware related issue.
