Pavilion X2 Detachable 10-n113dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hopefully someone can help.  I have been having trouble with my Pavilion x2 for quite a while now.  Recently, I reinstalled Windows 10 from a flash drive using the media creation tool downloaded from MIcrosoft.  Everything with the installation went fine with the exception of the camera not working.  I tried several things to get it working, but nothing worked.  So, I decided to reintall Windows once again.  Now when it get to the Finishing Up part, I receive the following message:

Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation.  To install Windows restart the installation.

I have restarted the installation several times, but it goes into the same loop.

Any suggestions?

Thanks ...

hi,

I'm Considering that you have not touch the drive partition. so as soon as windows complete the installation and tries to reinstall Windows, remove the installation drive in your case a Flash Drive.it May avoid the Loop.

Thanks,

The only thing I did was to format the Drive 0 Partition 3 Primary, which I did before when reinstalling Windows 10.  Once formatted it is showing 28.2 GB Total Size and 28.1 GB of Free Space.

Under Installing Windows it shows:

Copying Windows files

Getting files ready for installation

Installing features

Installing Updates

Finishing up

I am receving the error message when it gets to Finishing up.  So, I removed the flash when it finished Installing Updates, but I am still getting the same error message.

I held the power button to shut down the computer and when I turned it back on, all I have is a light blue blank screen.

Any additional suggestions?

Thank you.

John

I suggest you delete all partitions and start with a bare disk.

Thank you for your reply.  Below are the partitons that are listed when doing the Windows Setup.  Would you delete all the partitions?

Yes.

Thanks again.  I tried to delete the partitions within Windows Setup, but they will not delete.  I am not a pro, but I am not a beginner either.  This little computer is giving me fits.  Any suggestions on how to delete the partitions?

Thanks - John

You selected the partition in the screen shown in your post and chose 'delete'?

What exactly happened? Error message?

During installation you chose 'Custom' not 'Upgrade'?

HP Recommended

Yes, I selected the partitions in the screen shown in my post.  I read somewhere to start from the bottom and work my way up.  When I select the bottom partition and click delete, it highlights the top partition.  It gives no kind of message al all.

Steps I am using:

Power On

F9

I choose: USB Hard Drive (UEFI) - General USB Flash Disk

ENTER

Windows Setup - Language, Time, etc

NEXT

I click Install Now

Setup is Starting

Click: I accept the license terms

NEXT

Custom: Install Windows Only (Advanced)

I highlight Drive 0 - Partition 3 Primary and click Format (when format is complete is shows Total Size 28.2 GB - Free Space 28.1 GB).

NEXT

Installing Windows

All is okay until it gets to Finishing Up.

I do have one other question.  The Windows Key must be imbedded in the system.  If the paritions are deleted, will the Windows Key also be deleted?

Thanks again for your help - John

Start from the top down if you must. All partitions will be deleted anyway. It doesn't matter.

The Windows Key is a function of the operating system and will be re-installed with the OS.
